Imagine Where Love Can Take Us

Gospel singer Dottie Rambo dies in tour bus wreck in Mo.

MOUNT VERNON, Mo. - Joyce “Dottie” Rambo, an influential gospel singer and songwriter, died early Sunday when her tour bus ran off the highway and struck an embankment. She was 74.

Seven other people on the bus were injured in the wreck about two miles east of Mount Vernon on Interstate 44, the Missouri Highway Patrol said. They were hospitalized in Springfield with moderate to severe injuries, according to the patrol.

It was unclear whether the crash was related to the severe storms and tornadoes that hit the region on Saturday. Storms also swept through the area later in the night, according to the National Weather Service.

Rambo, of Nashville, Tenn., was on her way to a Mother’s Day performance in Texas, according to her Web site.

“She was a giant in the gospel music industry,” said Beckie Simmons, Rambo’s agent. “Dolly Parton recorded some of her songs.”

Rambo was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame last year and the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame in 2006.

Rambo has had more than 2,500 published songs, including gospel classics such as “He Looked Beyond My Fault and Saw My Need” and the 1982 Gospel Music Association Song of the Year, “We Shall Behold Him.”

Yolanda Turns Her Records Over to The IRS

YAdams

According to the Houston Chronicle, Yolanda Adams has turned her financial records over to Internal Revenue Service investigators, prompting the government to withdraw its request for a judge to intervene.

Earlier this year, the IRS issued a summons that required Adams, 46, to bring paperwork for the last six years to Houston’s IRS office and explain her financial affairs.

When she failed to show up for the February appointment, the agency asked a judge to force the Grammy-winning entertainer to cooperate.

It is likely that U.S. District Judge David Hittner will rescind his order for Adams to appear in court later this month.

Court filings last month revealed that the IRS section that oversees small businesses and the self-employed was investigating Adams.

The IRS requested details about a pair of million-dollar mortgage loan applications and sought more information about the singer’s endorsements and royalties as well as music companies and foundations with which she is affiliated.

In a one-page request filed Wednesday, the IRS asked for its enforcement request to be dismissed.

The filing did not mention the status of the agency’s probe or explain why the IRS is taking a closer look at Adams’ finances.

Adams hosts the Houston-based Yolanda Adams Morning Show with Brother Larry Jones, which is heard weekdays on Atlanta’s own Praise 97.5 FM, as well as other major markets around the nation.

Bishop Weeks: Guilty, But Forgiven

Now that enough months have gone by, perhaps Weeks can move on with his life and ministry, such as it is.

Weeks & Bynum

As reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Bishop Thomas W. Weeks pleaded guilty Tuesday to aggravated assault in the summertime attack on his estranged wife, national evangelist Juanita Bynum.

In Fulton County Superior Court before judge T. Jackson Bedford, Weeks admitted that he grabbed Bynum, threw her down and kicked her in the parking of the Renaissance Concourse Hotel, near Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on Aug. 21

Weeks immediately was sentenced to three years probation, 200 hours of non-church related community service and ordered to attend anger management counseling. If he successfully completes these conditions, the conviction will be expunged from his record.

The contrite pastor apologized to Bynum.

“I want to apologize to my wife for all actions you had to go through,” Weeks said. “I know it has been difficult. I appreciate you and I thank you.”

When asked by Bedford if she approved of the deal Weeks struck, Bynum said yes.

Still, Bedford scolded both ministers for their recent behavior as their marital troubles played out before the public.

“I understand if not hundreds of thousands, millions of people look to you for leadership, both moral and spiritual,” said Bedford to both Bynum and Weeks. “Going forward I would be mindful in your conduct in the future. Going through a divorce is a very difficult time. I know what it does to people.

“I’m very pleased this would was able to be worked out. Neither of you needed to be exposed to what would have happened in the courtroom. I wish you the very best,” Bedford said.

outside the courtroom

After the hearing Weeks and Bynum stood together outside the courthouse, expressing at least a degree of love.

He had asked for forgiveness and she accepted.

“My emotions got the best of me,” Weeks said of the Aug. 21 incident. “I take responsibility.”

Bynum said seeing her husband on Monday at a divorce deposition brought back old memories. She intervened on his behalf appealing to the court to be lenient on him.

“When I saw him it allowed me to reflect on the first time we got married,” she said. “No one tells you what to do with all of the love you feel for the person.”

District attorney Paul Howard said he was pleased the case could be resolved without going to trial. “He took responsibility,” Howard said. “We thought that was important.”

Weeks would not say whether the couple was getting back together.

“God is in control of all things, ” he said.

Weeks said he learned a lesson from this ordeal. He urged men facing similar conflicts with their spouses to “walk away, still walk away.”

Mario Winans: Deadbeat Dad?

Mario

He’s not a gospel artist, per se, but he is the son of gospel royalty.

EURWeb.com is reporting that Janel Bennett, ex-lover to R&B Producer, Mario Winans (son of Vicki Winans) is not receiving child support for their three year old son.

Further, Bennett claims she was evicted from her home in Miami because of the lack of child support. She told the New York Post she is living with friends on the South Side of Chicago, where she currently works as a cocktail waitress.

In 2005, the Miami Herald reported, “A DNA test shows a 99.99% probability that Mario Winans is the biological parent.” Documents filed in Miami-Dade, Florida court last January stated, “Mario Winans is obligated to pay Janel Bennett $4,500 per month due on the first of each month as child support.”

Bennett claims to have had to get on welfare and Medicaid in order to have the baby. She claims that after telling Mario she was pregnant, he disappeared from her life. Friends of Mario Winans confirmed to Page Six that his current girlfriend Joy and mother to his toddler daughter Sklyar, is known publicly as his “wife.” Janel says she lives in a 16-bedroom mansion and her son doesn’t have boots to wear in the winter.

She claims Winans has only seen his son once.

Bennett says she met Mario Winans in 1997 through a mutual friend, Sean “Diddy” Combs where Janel worked as Combs’ Sean Jean fashion consultant. She said Winans was sending child support up until last
year.

Mario Winans’ reps at Czar Entertainment and his lawyers had “no comment.”

Yolanda and The IRS

Well, it’s kinda all over the news. Let’s hope our daughter can pull thru this. Alas, when you’re a public figure, a lot, if not all of your affairs tend to be made public.

Why do we expect public figures to have it together more than we do? Last I checked, they were people too. The IRS and havn’t been buddy buddy either. The difference is, nobody knows me so it won’t be on front page news.

We love ya, Yolanda.  The morning show thing is cool, but when are you releasing another CD?

Back Together? …Not

Juanita Bynum

Angelo Ellerbee, publicist of Bishop Thomas Weeks issued the following statement:

“Please allow this communication to serve as an official notice to your web page that what was posted today regarding my client, Bishop Weeks III and his estranged wife, prophetess Juanita Bynum is totally false, incorrect and untrue on the behalf of Bishop Weeks. However, Ms. Bynum chooses to position herself is up to her and her publicity firm. There has been no spiritual engagements between my client, Bishop Weeks and his estranged wife. I hope that you will be very kind in displaying this

information on your site as soon as possible. I find it quite misleading and full of publicity tricks.”

Amy Malone, publicist for Evangelist Juanita Bynum, simultaneously issued a statement that said:

“Juanita Bynum would like to make it very clear that she is not in counseling with Bishop Thomas Weeks III, nor are there any talks of reconciliation as stated in the false article written by Doug Campbell.

Juanita Bynum Ministries received a request from Bishop Weeks’ uncle, Bishop Leo Smith, to speak at his conference in Barbados this June. She also received an invitation from his grandfather and aunt, Bishop Thomas J. Weeks and Dr. Gwendolyn Weeks to speak at their two-day prayer revival in Boston … she accepted both invitations. Her acceptances of the invitations are in no way a step towards reconciliation.”
